About Me

Hi, I’m Carlos Augusto 👋

I help to bring A.I. to the real world. That’s my LinkedIn headline, and it’s also the shortest way to explain what I do.

I have more than 18 years in IT. Today, from Michigan, I’m Global Technology Office Director of Cybersecurity, Cloud Infrastructure and Ops at Stefanini, and I also lead AI & ML. My job is to take AI out of the slides and put it inside real operations, on top of infrastructure that is secure and doesn’t fall down: generative AI and LLMs, automation for applications and ERPs like SAP, cloud, security, data and analytics. I mostly work for Stefanini’s internal areas and build solutions that are then deployed to clients like Dow Chemical, Toyota North America, Tiffany & Co., PVH, Ferrero and Mastercard. Some days I’m with clients drawing the solution, some days I’m with the team building it, and some days I’m the one making sure it doesn’t break.

My challenge at Stefanini right now is to find opportunities that start in one country and turn them into global offers, or to build new global products and services. I also support our regions in applying AI to their work.

Where I come from

I started as a software developer in São Paulo, working on payment systems for acquirers and issuers like Rede, Itaú and Alelo. Capture, approval, processing, settlement: I worked in the whole flow of a card transaction for more than ten years.

From there I became a consultant and a solutions architect, and then IT manager and software architect at EcommIT, leading several teams that kept critical financial operations running. I was the last “barrier” when a problem had no owner. Even at 3 a.m.

In 2020 I also became co-owner of an online clinic, where I took care of marketing and technology. That taught me something that no architecture diagram teaches: how it feels when the money is yours.

In 2022 I joined Stefanini to lead AI. Today I also take care of cybersecurity, cloud infrastructure and operations in our Global Technology Office.

What I believe

  • AI has to be practical. If it doesn’t change a real process, it’s a demo.
  • Ideas are cheap. Execution is what matters.
  • Security is part of the design, not something you add later.
  • A good leader makes things clear, not complicated.

What I work with

My work covers software development in several languages, critical operations, application management services (AMS) and software development projects. On the infrastructure side, I design cloud architecture and work with Kubernetes and four cloud providers: Azure, AWS, GCP and Huawei Cloud.

The tools I use most are LLMs (OpenAI, Gemini, Claude, Llama, Mistral and others), Python, C# and Java, LangChain, Hugging Face, Spark, Docker, UiPath and SAP GUI scripting. I like to stay hands-on, from the problem statement to the code running in production.

Outside of work

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (blue belt, and proud of it 😂), my family and children, games, investing, philosophy and DIY projects. I also mentor people who want to grow in tech and leadership. Some of the best conversations I have are those.

I studied Computer Engineering and did an MBA in Project Management.
